South Africa Is Our Only Real Mother

The hand that rocks the cradle, Is the hand that rules the world. These are the wise words of William Wallace. I agree with him: A mother knows how to educate her children. For us South Africa is our only real mother. Plinks said: People undertake great Journeys to faraway places to see things that they don't appreciate in their own country. Our Mother South Africa cares about us, and therefore she takes us to her Art Museum filled with all her beautiful treasures of nature. Table Mountain with its cloudy table-cloth, is the beacon where a new nation was born.Then she takes us on the Garden Route through Cornerstones with its bonbons and protease. According to the description of the poet Liana Spies, Unequalled is the place where God's seed sachet was leaking†¦ When Spring starts, the earth is covered with thousands of colored flowers that take your breath away! From there she takes you on a game drive to the big five. Nowhere else in the world will you find this unique variety of wild life: Lions, Elephants, Rhino, Buffalo's and Leopards. It is the dream of every hunter to have a trophy of one of these animals as part of his hunting collection- Says PeterWeakened in the magazine â€Å"Go† of Cot 08. A mother definitely spoils her child. South Africa has many resources. If you open the tap, the water is running. If you drive into the countryside, you see the crop fields, vineyards, fruit orchards, vegetable farms and plantations that provide food and oxygen to Mother Africans children. If you walk out the door and see children play, you realize that that is a privilege – Says Urdu van Wok in ROI Rose of July 08. Oversees cluster houses with no garden at all, are the normal way of living. So, appreciate the open blue, African Sky!Ecologist Sydney Wright said: The earth is our playground. Mother South Africa nurtures us. We are all caught up in the rat race against time. We run around like mad dogs, being uptight and stiff-lipped. Then Mother S outh Africa puts her arms around us and takes us on a trip to the beach where we can revivalist our souls. It doesn't matter what we enjoy most: The fresh sea breeze, the deep blue ocean, the hot white sand, or the hot brown bodies†¦.! South Africans are known as the sun-seekers of the world. And when the sun sets, we turn to the company of a barbecue with friends and loved ones. Amp steak and the call of the hyena†¦ No wonder the English Pompoms me. Y us and try to copy-cat our â€Å"brainless. † I call their poor excuse for meat on a TV-briar, a â€Å"Barbie†! Ladies and gentlemen†¦ According to National Geographic, South Africa has 5 of the world's top rated nature reserves. We are lucky that Mother South Africa cuddles us with her beautiful scenery. She spoils us by keeping our food stores full, And provides us with exotic places to relax and revivalist. Mother South Africa is a country that provides us with what the Afrikaans poet – C Louis L eopold – describes as: â€Å"Summer, sun and sapphire for me!!

Writing Academic Papers

How do you feel about writing academic papers? If you have enjoyed writing in the past, what did you like about the process of writing? If you have not enjoyed it, why not? Did you have any of the misconceptions about writing discussed in Chapter 1 of the text? What did you learn in the chapter that you think might be helpful to you in writing papers here at Ashford University? I do not like writing academic papers. It is very time consuming and some require doing a lot of research on the topic.I don’t like write papers because the subject is not of interest to me sometimes. I also find it a little difficult to do a thesis statement. In reading Chapter 1, â€Å"many writing experts suggest keeping a personal journal or a diary to help you understand what you have read and to sharpen your writing skills† (Sole, 2010). Eddie plays Essay

The third of these parts is an actual character in the play. Alfieri plays a lawyer that Eddie goes to for advice. Alfieri works in a poor community and only deals with small neighbourhood affairs. ‘Morally and Legally you have no right, you cannot stop it’ is a piece of advice Eddie receives from Alfieri, he ignores the advice and chooses to deal with it his own way by breaking the neighbourhood code of honour. Alfieri as a character feels he can no longer change Eddie’s mind and feels rather powerless at this time. The last part Eddie plays is the epilogue. This is the small speech Alfieri says at the end of the play which is rather like a eulogy. A eulogy is a speech made at a funeral. It usually outlines the good points about the deceased person. When the play is portrayed on stage, Alfieri has a very important part to play as the epilogue. The speech has to look effective, the lights dim down and Alfieri talks to the audience. This speech is aimed at the audience and ends the play on a serious note.. The epilogue takes an effect on the on the audience as there are women ‘keening’ on the stage in other words crying on there knees. This has strong effect on the audience while Alfieri’s reading the epilogue. This is seen as reflective time following the sudden violent action of Eddie’s death. Alfieri try’s to say good things about Eddie. He describes him ‘ I think I will love him more than all my sensible clients’ the epilogues message is saying something nice about Eddie. Alfieri is saying Eddie’s case is very different to the rest of his cases he has dealt with . Eddie added excitement to Alfieri’s normally dull lifestyle and Alfieri will miss that. By the saying ‘settle for half’ Alfieri means the audience would probably settle for compromise. In ‘ A View from the Bridge’ Eddie is see as the hero, unfortunately every tragic hero has a weakness and for Eddie his tragic Weakness is his desire for Catherine his Niece. Eddie finally realises he can’t have her When Beatrice tells him in the final scene. She begins telling Eddie she loves him, when he doesn’t respond she tells him ‘you want somethin’ else Eddie and you can never have her! ‘ The actress wouldn’t be angry while delivering the phrase but she wouldn’t be happy either. To face up to their partner loving someone else is very hard, especially telling them you know and finding out it’s your niece. Catherine and Eddie react in horror to what they have just heard and Eddie continues to deny it. Eddie is so full of horror at hearing this speech because he knows his secret is out, it’s also the shock of someone saying you fancy your niece. This gets translated into anger against Marco because Eddie has been getting more and more annoyed and when Beatrice tells him he sees Marco’s challenge outside as a means of physically venting his anger, pain and frustration. The revelation to himself of his desires for Catherine would be tearing his mind apart so the audience would see a an virtually insane. As in a Greek tragedy Marco is seen as Eddie’s inevitable doom, Eddie cannot escape death. There have been many failed attempts to prevent the final tragedy, these have been made by Alfieri, Catherine, Beatrice and even Rodolpho. Rodolpho tries to stop Eddie by saying ‘No he has children, you will destroy a family’ But this still doesn’t stop Eddie fighting with Marco. As soon as Eddie finds out about Rodolpho and Catherine he is on the path to destruction. This is shown in the final meeting Eddie has with Alfieri, also when he returns home drunk to find Rodolpho and Catherine have probably had sex. In the play Eddie has a high demand for respect this can often affect other characters in the play as Eddie reels them in and gets them involved. At the start of the final scene Eddie tells Beatrice that if she attends the wedding she can’t come back to their house. When Eddie tells Beatrice she can’t return to his house the audience would be quite surprised. Beatrice having to miss out on her niece’s wedding just because Eddie doesn’t want to lose his pride. The audience would be telling Beatrice just to go to the wedding but she doesn’t want to lose Eddie. Eddie feels that Catherine owes him respect because he took her in after her mother and father died and he also paid for her stenograph lessons so she could get a well paid job. Catherine then enters from the bedroom and seems as if she didn’t hear Beatrice and Eddie’s conversation. She ask’s Beatrice if she’s ready as the wedding starts at three and the ‘priest won’t wait’. When Eddie asks Beatrice whose side she’s on, Catherine reacts differently to her whole attitude throughout the play. She suddenly shouts ‘Who the hell do you think you are? ‘ this makes an impression on Beatrice and Eddie. Moreover, the audience have not heard her speak like this before. Beatrice tells Catherine to ‘sssh’ but Catherine doesn’t listen and continues to insult Eddie. This is quite shocking to the audience because at any moment Eddie could hurt Catherine as the audience know what he’s capable of and can see the anger in his eyes. As Catherine continues Beatrice also tells Catherine to shut up but she doesn’t listen. Beatrice ignores Catherine when she tells her to come this is when she calls Eddie a rat. ‘He bites people when they sleep! He comes when nobody’s lookin’ and poisons decent people. In the garbage he belongs’. Catherine refers to Eddie as a sewage rat because he is under the ground and lower than anyone else. Catherine feels Eddie belongs in the garbage. Also Miller is using a pun. The American colloquialism ‘to rat’ on somebody is the same as the English ‘grass’ somebody up which is wha ople had for Eddie. By telling what Eddie had done, Marco took away the respect Eddie had, therefore he stole his name-which is referred to as a mark of respect. When Eddie addresses the people about Marco stealing his respect he talks about all he has done for Marco and Rodolpho. He explains how he took them in and how he’d never even seen them before. He makes vague references to the bible and feels he offered them sanctuary from the world outside and the law. ‘ Little bits of laughter even escape him as his eyes are murderous’. This is a sentence from the stage directions when Eddie is saying his speech to the neighbourhood. This is the first part which shows Eddie is becoming virtually insane with anger. His anger is continually boiling up over the whole play and the argument with Marco is a time when he can let it all out and it adds to the excitement of the argument. The way Eddie speaks makes him seem to be going virtually insane. He makes the argument out as if it’s all Marco’s fault and even seems to forget about Rodolpho a and Catherine. In his speech Eddie starts it off with a series of rhetorical questions and it doesn’t matter because Eddie doesn’t give Marco time to answer. Miller makes Eddie say the speech because Eddie’s anger has had a dramatic effect on the audience. The speech is very similar to other tragedies. Eddie’s address is like an aria in an opera, full of passion which here is making Eddie almost incoherent. Eddie gives Marco an option, if he gives him his name back they can go peacefully to the wedding. Of course Marco declines. When Eddie makes the offer to Marco, He makes it in the street in front of everyone. He feels Marco has done wrong and he continues to deny telling the immigration bureau. Eddie just wants Marco to tell the neighbourhood he was lying then everything will be ok. However, Eddie’s tone of contempt would grate in the audience. The public confrontation that Eddie and Marco have is typical of western cowboy films. This relates to Millers opinion that the Brooklyn waterfront was like the ‘wild west’. The participants usually walk 10 paces then face each other and fight like a duel. Cowboy films were very popular in the 1950’s with actors like Alan Ladd, Gregory Peck and John Wayne.. The idea of a western confrontation comes from the phrase ‘A man’s gotta’ do what a mans gotta’ do’. Arthur Miller once said the waterfront in the 1950’s that it was ‘the wild west, a desert beyond the law’. The confrontation Eddie and Marco have is based on the idea of a man has to stand up for what he believes in and Eddie is doing that by asking for his name back but Marco was also doing that because he believed he should have told the neighbourhood what Eddie had done. The duel between Eddie and Marco is very much like that in a typical Wild West film. Like gunfighters approaching each other down the high street, Eddie and Marco are approaching each other across the stage. Each as in a typical western duel challenges the other. Eddie says ‘ Marco, tell them what a liar you are! Both actors have their arms outspread similar to the gun fighter’s hands hovering above their hoisted guns. Like in a cowboy duel Eddie makes the first move ‘lunging’ for Marco. As in a western the spectators gasp in surprise however Marco’s superior strength strikes Eddie to the ground. Marco calls Eddie ‘Animal! ‘ showing that Eddie can no longer consider himself human. This is similar to Catherine earlier calling him a rat. Marco also shouts ‘ Get on your knees to me’ this is the dramatic way Marco demands respect. Miller emphasises Marco’s rage by use of exclamation marks. However Eddie breaks the rules of the duel by producing a knife causing Marco to step back. When the audience see Eddie go down they would probably be shocked because although the story is like a Greek tragedy the audience might not have known that. When Eddie goes down the audience would be happy Eddie can cause no more damage but as the hero the audience will have become rather attached to him. When Eddie produces the knife they would be surprised but anxious at the same time. They know that either Eddie or Marco is going to die, the way the actors portray the fight would affect the way the audience felt. The knife ‘ups’ the stakes and makes a violent death even more of a possibility. When Eddie and Marco begin to fight, Louis try’s to intervene and stop them ‘ for Christ’s sake! ‘ When Louis says this Eddie raises the knife and appears as if he’s going to strike as Louis has seen the way Eddie is acting he believes he will do it and steps back, leaving Eddie and Marco to face each other. Miller makes Louis intervene as a sort of last resort to stop the fight. His wife, his niece and his wife’s cousins have all attempted to stop the fight happening and each of them have failed. Miller feels that a friend can usually stop you doing something that isn’t right. Unfortunately Eddie made a big mistake using a knife because this fight is becoming his last. Marco intentionally turns the blade inwards and forces Eddie to stab himself. This ties in with the idea of a Greek tragedy. The hero facing his inevitable doom. From the beginning of the play Marco was seen as Eddie’s inevitable doom. ‘ A View from the Bridge’ is similar to other tragedies where the hero meets his inevitable doom. ‘Macbeth’ written by William Shakespeare arised from the idea of a Greek tragedy. The main character mentioned in the title, meets his inevitable doom at the end of the play. Another play written by Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet also arises from a Greek tragedy when two of the main characters meet their doom. I was quite shocked when I heard the end of the play. Even though I knew it was a Greek tragedy I didn’t expect Eddie to die. From the way Miller describes Marco’s appearance I could tell he would probably cause some trouble. When Marco picked the chair up over Eddie you could tell Marco wasn’t afraid of confrontation if necessary. I think that the message Miller was trying to get across is that fighting isn’t the answer and that whatever happens was meant to happen, it’s your fate. At the end when Alfieri says the epilogue I think Miller means we can come to a compromise and if they can’t then walk away, or else we to will have to face the same consequences as Eddie Carbone.

Effect of RAS Polymorphism on Essential Blood Pressure Pharmacogenetic Association of RAS Polymorphism on Essential Blood Pressure in Relation to Enalapril/Lisinopril among Malay male newly diagnosed hypertensives Abstract Objective: It has been suggested that genetic backgrounds, which have an association with essential hypertension, may also determine the responsiveness to ACE inhibitor. We determined the association of angiotensin-converting enzyme (I/D, G2350A), angiotensinogen (M235T, T174M and A-6G) and renin (Bg/I and Mbo/I) gene polymorphisms with essential hypertension and the relationship between genetic variant of interest and high blood pressure response to ACE inhibitor (enalapril, lisinopril) in patients with essential hypertension subjects from Seremban, Malaysia. Methods: A newly hypertensive Malay male population (n=142) was recruited for a mono-trophy[ah1] pharmacogenetic study. Hypertensive patients were treated with ACEI drugs, particularly enalapril or lisinopril alone. We differentiated between those who controlled their HT with those who did not. Each group’s characteristics were compared to determine the risk of non-controlled HT associated with RAS polymorphisms by adjusting for different variables. Results: Statistically significant associations of I, G, T and M alleles were observed with essential hypertension in I/D, G2350A, M235T, and T175M. The decrease in systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure after 24 weeks of treatment of the patients carrying II, GG, and TT genotypes was greater than the groups carrying DD, AA, MM and MM genotypes. In contrast, no significant difference was shown between renin gene polymorphisms (Bg/I and MboI). Conclusions: Although this study shows a possible association of polymorphisms of RAAS genes[ah2] with the risk of non-controlled HT in ACEI-treated patients and indicates the importance of all components in this system in regulating HT, it needs to be replicated in other data sources. In Malaysia, the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2013 has shown that the prevalence of hypertension in adults ≠¥18 years increased from 33.2% in 2006 to 35.7% in 2013 [2]. Furthermore, the prevalence increased from 42.6% to 43.5% for those >30 years old. Unfortunately, 60.6% of total hypertensives were â€Å"undiagnosed† [3]. These poor rates of high blood pressure (BP) control are not explained by the lack of treatment, as one study estimated approximately 30% of treated hypertensive patients take one antihypertensive drug, 40% take two antihypertensive drugs and 30% take three or more antihypertensive drugs [4]. These data suggest that the present trial and error approach for high blood pressure management is suboptimal, and alternative approaches for identifying the optimal antihypertensive regimen in a specific patient are needed. Using genetic make-up of an indiv idual along with the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors for hypertensive response offers a new preventive approach to lower adverse drug interaction risk. A renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is an important component of blood pressure regulation, and it has been suspected to be involved in hypertension [5]. Moreover, the major active peptide of the RAS is angiotensin II. Produced from the precursor molecule, angiotensinogen (AGT), via an enzyme cascade involving ACE enzyme, angiotensin II exerts numerous effects on the homeostatic regulation of blood pressure, the vast majority of which are mediated via the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) [6]. The presence of polymorphisms in the ACE, AGT and renin (REN) genes of the RAS has been associated with adverse EH changes in several studies [7,8,9]. For example, the insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphisms of the ACE gene have been associated with increased blood pressure, urinary albumin excretion (UAE) and target-organ damage in hypertensive patients [10]. Moreover, ACE G2350A gene polymorphisms in exon 17 were reported as a remarkable genetic variant mostly associated through hypertension with an average increase of 3.2 mmHg in SBP by having the G allele [11]. It has been reported that the presence of A-6G polymorphism of AGT gene among Chinese hypertensives increased body weight gain in hypertensive patients [12]. The Mb/I and Bg/I polymorphisms of the REN gene have been associated with hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, aortic stiffness and exaggerated vasoconstriction; additionally, the Bg/I polymorphism in the same gene appears to confer protection against the development of microalbuminuria in patients with hypertension [13]. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the impact of four RAS gene polymorphisms on the antihypertensive response in newly detected hypertensives receiving two ACEIs (enalapril and lisinopril). The polymorphisms investigated were A-6G, the A for G substitution of the AGT gene 6 nucleotides upstream from the start site; the ACE I/D polymorphism corresponding to an insertion or deletion of a 287bp alu repeat; and two polymorphisms of the REN gene, Bg/I and MboI and both in the coding area of intron 9. There are compelling reasons hypothesizing that variations in genes of the system may be predictive of variations in BP response. Therefore, genetic variation of the RAS has been investigated in relation to antihypertensive response to ACE inhibitors in various population and dosage (Table 1) as the most common lowering BP agent in Malaysia [14]; however, previously publications have had somewhat conflicting results elsewhere [15-19]. We hypothesized those genetic polymorphisms in RAS genes, including ACE I/D, G2350A, AGT M235T, T174M, A-6G along with REN MboI and Bg/I were associated with the incidence of EHT. Therefore, the aim of this pharmacogenetic study was to investigate the association between seven RAS gene polymorphisms of interest among 142 newly diagnosed Malay male hypertensives that never took BP medications. They were treated once daily for 24 weeks with 20 mg of enalapril or lisinopril. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patient Populations Malay male patients >18 years of age with three-generation Malay family who were newly diagnosed with essential mild-to-moderate hypertension were collected from clinics for non-communicable disease Seremban, Malaysia. The information includes age (25-60 years old), onset (25-60 years old), systolic BP > 140 mmHg and a diastolic BP > 90 mmHg on 2 consecutive visits for those untreated, absence of secondary forms of hypertension. Subjects with a history of diabetes mellitus, renal failure and major infectious disease were excluded. They had no metabolic or endocrine disorder, as well as any acute illness. They were not on any antihypertensive treatment and were drug-naive patients. Written informed consent was obtained from each patient before being included in the clinical trial, and patient’s identity was kept strictly confidential. A specific consent form was requested for genetic testing permission. BLOOD PRESSURE REDUCTION PATTERN Lifestyle Modification For patients, lifestyle modification for a period of three months was advised. The patients were seen three times during this period to assess the efficacy of the non-pharmacological management including weight loss, regular exercise, and ingestion of a high-fiber, low-fat, and low-salt diet. Follow-up Mon-trophy[ah3] Management Dispensed ACEIs (lisinopril or enalapril) on the same date for individuals have recorded. Each patient received lisinopril or enalapril (20 mg, once daily) for 24 weeks on a regular basis. Patients’ BP was measured using the same device and protocol; follow-up visits were made 12 times (once per two weeks). Of the 152 patients, 10 lost to the follow-up along monitoring due to relocation, travelling and/or change of medication. Eventually 142 hypertensives (92.6%) completed the study. This subsample was divided into two groups; individuals whose HT was not controlled as the non-responded (n=35), and individuals whose HT was under control as the responded (n=107). Genotyping procedures A blood sample was taken in two separate tubes; one was used for colorimetric analysis of total cholesterol (TC), high density lipid profile (HDL), low density lipid profile (LDL), triacylglycerol (TG) and fasting glucose (FBG) using Diays Commercial Kits (Diagnostic System, GmBH, D66559 Holzheim, Germany), and the other test tube contained venous blood samples collected on EDTA was subjected to DNA extraction, which was obtained from individuals in the morning after a minimum of 8 hours fasting at the time of randomization. Eventually, the samples were stored at -20 °C for further molecular and biochemical analysis. DNAs were extracted from 5 mL blood samples as explained elsewhere [20]. ACE I/D polymorphism was genotyped using DNA amplification with oligonucleotides as described elsewhere [21]. For ACE G2350A, DNA amplification followed the approach by Zhu et al. [22]. Reactions were conducted using DNA amplification in a final volume of 25 mL containing 20 pmol of each primer, 0.4 mmol/L of each deoxynucleotide triphosphate (dNTP), 2 mmol/L of MgCl2, 1XTaq buffer and one unit of NEB Taq DNA polymerase (New England Biolabs, Beverly, MA, USA). The PCR cycling conditions were carried out in an iCycler machine (BioRad Laboratories, Hercules, CA, USA). Were chosen[ah4] for genotyping using the polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) approach, and the details are presented in Table 2. It seems Fidel Castro has opened a Cuban port allowing Cubans to go to the United States. Unbeknownst to the U.S. though, Castro has secretly cleared his jails and included prisoners with the refugees (guess what group Tony and Manolo belong to, *wink wink*). Tony is an ambitious person; he wants the world. He always says what is on his mind and does not let people take advantage of him. His attitude eventually lands him a job with Drug Lord Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia). Lopez immediately takes a liking to Tony, who takes a liking to Lopez’s trophy girlfriend Elvira (Michelle Pfeiffer). Lopez is not greedy; he is happy with the state of his business, but less happy with Elvira’s cocaine addiction. As Scarface progresses, it details Tony’s rise in the drug business as well as his relationships with his partner Manolo, his sister Gina (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) -of whom he is overprotective- and Elvira. Scarface is loosely based on the original 1932 Scarface (directed by Howard Hawks and based on real life gangster Al Capone). The talented Brian De Palma (Carrie, 1976) directs the ‘remake’, written by another famous director: Oliver Stone (Midnight Express, 1978). Stone deserves real credit for his gritty yet accurate depiction of the drug industry. Stone, who was himself struggling with a cocaine addiction at the time, interviewed both Law Enforcement officials and drug dealers before writing his script. The lack of positive characters and an unconventional ending is also praiseworthy since it makes this film into an atypical Hollywood movie. Brian De Palma’s direction in this film is slick. While the plot is very violent, the movie shows only some of this violence. De Palma expertly cuts the camera away from some scenes at the last second, showing us the actor’s reaction rather than the deed. Visually the movie uses bright colours, with a focus on neon and whites. While this sounds contrary to the dark nature of the character’s actions, it fits nicely with the colours of Miami and its people.

Rainman The film â€Å"rain man† is set with two very different characters. That of Charlie, a fast-talking, money hungry con-artist, and Raymond, Charlie’s autistic brother. The film is about change and the building of a friendship and brotherhood. The focus chosen is about the relationship between Raymond and Charlie, as they leave on an adventure that will change the lives of both men. At the very start of the film Charlie talks about â€Å"the rain man† he says â€Å"the rain man will come and make everything better again† Charlie is emotionally unstable at the beginning of the film as his father had just past away and he had been left basically nothing of a three million dollar estate. This estate has been left to a beneficiary and later Charlie found out that this man was actually his brother Raymond. Charlie thinks that Raymond is stupid so he yells at him a lot. Charlie leads Ray away from Wallbrook with him, while the fight for the money continued. Charlie doesn’t think of anyone but himself and doesn’t understand that someone with autism needs a routine. This routine is all they have to try to feel safe about themselves. This is shown when Charlie is ordering dinner and the takeaway store does not have what Raymond wants so Charlie says, â€Å"bring the closest thing†. Charlie doesn’t here peoples needs, just ignores them, and goes on with what he was doing. When Ray tells Charlie that he needs a book to read Charlie throws him the phone book.
